It’s amazing how quickly a small inconvenience can rearrange a whole day.

Our A/C quit on Friday night.

Thankfully, my sister and I each have portable A/C units in our bedrooms. Since hers also has the TV, everyone—including Rio and Remi—ended up camped out there.

Dinner was pizza.

Later, we cooled down with Dairy Queen.

The boys alternated between stretching out across the bed and deciding they needed a few extra cuddles. The rest of the apartment could wait.

It struck me that disruptions don’t always make life busier.

Sometimes they simply change where life happens.

Without really thinking about it, we organized ourselves around the place that offered the most comfort. The coolest room became the center of the evening.

It’s interesting how often we do that.

When something feels uncertain or inconvenient, we naturally drift toward what restores us. Sometimes that’s a cool room on a hot night. Sometimes it’s a familiar chair, a favorite coffee shop, a quiet walk, or the people we can simply be ourselves around.

Comfort has a way of becoming our center of gravity.

Maybe that’s not avoiding disruption.

Maybe it’s how we move through it.

The A/C will get fixed. The apartment will spread back out. The dogs will reclaim their usual spots.

But for one warm weekend, life slowed down just enough to remind me that sometimes the best thing we can do isn’t fight the interruption.

It’s simply gather where the comfort is.
