There was a moment today—
nothing big, just a sound from another room.
Remi was up first.
Of course he was.
Alert. Curious. Already moving toward it—
barking as he went
like the answer might be waiting for him.
Rio didn’t move right away.
He lifted his head.
Watched.
Waited.
Like he was deciding if it mattered.
Same moment.
Two completely different responses.
And neither of them felt wrong.
I realized something watching them—
I don’t struggle with the pause.
I’m actually really good at it.
I notice.
I think.
I run it through a few angles
before I decide what to do.
But sometimes…
I stay there too long.
What starts as space
turns into a loop.
And the decision doesn’t get clearer—
just heavier.
Watching Rio, though—
his pause doesn’t linger.
He gathers just enough
and then either moves…
or doesn’t.
No over-processing.
No second-guessing.
Just a clean decision.
I think that’s the part I’m still learning.
