The meeting wasn’t planned.
No invitations were sent.
No agenda was written.
The air conditioner simply stopped working.
Suddenly everyone ended up in one room.
My sister rolled the portable A/C into her bedroom because it cooled the best. The TV came on. Pizza showed up for dinner. Dairy Queen followed later because when it’s ninety degrees in your own house, ice cream starts sounding less like dessert and more like strategy.
Rio and Remi didn’t question any of it.
They simply accepted that tonight, apparently, the bedroom was the living room.
They stretched across the bed like they’d always gathered there. Every so often one would wander over for a little reassurance, then settle back down. No complaints. No confusion. Just…this is where the pack is now.
It struck me that dogs don’t spend much time wishing today looked like yesterday.
If the family moves, they move.
If the routine changes, they adjust.
If comfort suddenly looks different, they don’t seem offended by it.
They just stay close to the people they love.
Sometimes we treat interruptions like life has gone off script.
Maybe they’re just a reminder that the script was never the important part.
The people are.
And for one unexpectedly warm Friday night, one bedroom became the whole house.
Rio and Remi seemed perfectly content with that.
