I have become convinced that every coffee drinker has a very specific temperature they consider acceptable.
For hot coffee, there’s a narrow window.
Too hot and you’re taking cautious little test sips while waiting for it to stop trying to remove the roof of your mouth.
Too cool and suddenly you’re wondering if it’s worth finishing.
For iced coffee, the rules are different.
Cold is good.
Colder is better.
And there comes a point where the ice has melted just enough that the whole thing feels… disappointing.
Not bad.
Just not what you signed up for.
This is why some people own cup warmers.
This is also why some of us drink our iced coffee before it has a chance to become room temperature.
What fascinates me is how much thought we can devote to this.
We’ll debate whether the coffee is still acceptable.
We’ll move it to a different cup.
We’ll add ice.
We’ll consider reheating it.
And that’s where coffee drinkers tend to split into camps.
Some people happily reheat yesterday’s coffee.
Others would rather start over entirely.
I won’t be naming names.
But I think we all know who we are.
Maybe that’s what makes me smile about it.
In a world full of complicated decisions, coffee remains wonderfully uncomplicated.
We know exactly what we like.
And we’re surprisingly willing to defend it.
Honestly, there are worse things than having strong opinions about the temperature of your coffee.
