Bedtime looks the same every night.

At least from the outside.

Remi is already in my sister’s room.

He doesn’t pick one spot on the bed.

He cycles through them.

A snuggle.
Then the edge of the bed.
Up by the pillow.
Back down next to his plushy.

He settles,
but not all at once.

Rio is in my room.

He knows exactly where he’s going.

Top of the bed.
Near the pillow.
Close to where the sheets pull up.

He gets there and stays.

At least for a while.

He doesn’t really want to move.

But eventually, he does.

He waits.

For everything to settle.
For the lights to go off.
For the room to feel like it’s done for the night.

Then he moves in.

Closes the space
until there’s barely any left.

Same routine.
Not everyone settles the same way.
Some move around.
Some wait, then move in.
